In the upper Midwest, the month of October brings Autumn colors into full display. Our deciduous forests of oak, maple, ash and honey locust, among others, display their last visual "hurrah!", dazzling our senses. Set among them are the conifers that, with few exceptions (tamarack), retain their deep greens, adding contrast to the visual scene. A walk in the woods not only delights the eyes but also the other senses. The scent of the fallen leaves mix with the aroma of pines, carried on the crisp Autumn air. It is a sensory feast.
“Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves. We have had our summer evenings. Now for October eves!”                                                                                                Humbert Wolfe
